My Cave 15-08!

Hey there, Internet!

It has been a while since I posted about the changes in my flat last time and even though I still am far from finishing my kitchen or any other room I wanted to show you the progress of decorating and customizing it into the cozy cave I am longing for!

Still planning of it to be the first room to be finished and so the most has been put into this room. Most of my herbs preferred the atmosphere on my balcony so I moved them outside and afterwards went online to find even more plants, kitchen herbs mainly. I haven’t found a matching sink yet so that place currently is staying empty. Besides the sink the only thing left to do is decorating or as you might say ‘stuff things in it until it looks like that wicked litte kitchen I am dreaming of’ and also I’ll have to continue the hunt for some nice bottles of Absinthe or maybe exchange some of my basic tools with spooky ones.

Bedroom / working space

Since I did not feel too comfortable staring at the same empty white walls all the time I decided to work a bit on this room as well. Created my own kind of cornice with some chains, safety pins, nails and destructed black fabrics, added DIY ghosts with handkerchiefs which were some heirloom by my grandmother and were still looking for a way to be displayed. I also finally found a way to display the picture Anthony Darr did for me as a gift a few years ago. Had some extremely silver sparkling gift wrapping paper left which was the exact size of an empty frame and so the decision was made. The drawing was meant to be me as comic villain, love this picture to death and I am SO grateful for this! Back then he sent it to me with a hand written letter which also went into that frame. I know I might once more lose some goth points but I have that thing for glitter, like crows, they keep those points though I guess? My doll Julia also went from one spot to another because now that I actually have a desk, which needs some work before I will show it, my laptop would be in front of her. Same as the kitchen, a few pieces of furniture and decorations are missing, but knowing that I moved in only in January makes me happy with the progress so far! Anyone knows if there is a support group for halloween shopping addicts? I have a few boxes of decorations here already but stalking and drooling over all those shops starting to sell their new halloween stuff! Who needs a couch when you have a flat covered in pumpkins, skeletons, bats and spiders?!

What else?

I started to collect ideas & desireable plant names for next year’s balcony season. Then I continued to stick black foil to the creamy bathroom tiles and after returning from M’era Luna I set my tent up again, in my living room. Also… Currently working on a picture for my tiny hallway that I hope to be able to show you in my next post!

What are your home decorating / DIY inspirations? Have a nice evening!

Flat Update 15-04 / Kitchen Part 2

Hey there, Internet!

Here’s a small update on my kitchen, you can find the post on Kitchen Part 1 here… During the months of March and April I was not that good at sticking to only working on my kitchen as I was hoping I would be (means, I added / worked on a lot of things for the other rooms, too and hence didn’t do that much in my kitchen) but still, let’s pretend that did not happen and stick to the kitchen for this post.

Of course each time I go to the store I go there with a list of everything still missing in my kitchen and return with maybe one or two things from that list but there are also things like this tea that I really can’t resist (same with decor for other rooms or sweets or whatever things to offer to guests) Who came up with the idea of a spooky castle and cute ghost packaging for a tea that is supposed to make you (or actually children) fall asleep more easy?

Anyways, the bright, cheap wooden colored boxes / my ‘kitchen-shelf’ was painted with pumpkin-like-orange polish and I got some more storage boxes – will switch to glass-jars though as soon as I find matching ones! For my sitting/working area I got this kitchen-bar, cheapest one with storage won since there is still a lot of the orange paint left so I won’t end with a white bar in my kitchen and I can always sew a set of tablecloths from the green / olive fabric that you can see lying on one of the chairs.

Yesterday two friends helped me to move the kitchen door to the cellar room (so much more space in my kitchen now!) and tonight I added the second of 3 velvet pieces to the ceiling.

During the last few weeks I lost some of my herbs. When I went to buy new soil it obviously came with some kind of bugs who instantly started nomming on my plants – sadly I noticed that when it was already too late for a lot of them / went to work and to bed and woke up to find a lot of them looking very sad already. Of course tried my best to save all of them but was only successful to a few. Anyways, learned my lesson – a workmate said when using new soil I should put it into the oven to destroy bug-eggs that could be hiding. Did that and it seems to be true, so far no new bugs have been seen! Plus: my flat now smells like a cemetary (oven-heat + soil = smell of fire and fresh soil for days.)

Next things to do in this room: Tablecloth for the bar, paint the chairs orange, put colored foils on the tiles and fridge, add last piece of velvet to the ceiling, buy a sink and then decorate! Seems like a lot to do but actually I think it won’t take too long to finish now – hope to ‘finish’ until maybe August?

Are you currently working on any of your rooms? What are you going to change? Have a nice evening!

Flat Update 15-02 / Kitchen Part 1

Hey there, internet!

As I said before I returned to my childhood area, since it seems I am someone who just should not live together with someone else (even though I really enjoyed the time that a dear friend let me join her in her 1 room appartement when I was in need) I was looking for a long-time-my-cave kind of thing which I found pretty quickly! So here I am, sitting in a 60m² two-room flat all on my own in the western but still quite central part of Brunswick… Maybe not the best neighborhood but as long as my neighbors leave me alone I’m happy!

Starting from stretch and on a budget (left my entire furniture in the old flat for a reason) I thought it would be best to do one room at a time. And since all I need is a bed, kitchen and a place to get ready in the morning (which of course is in every flat) i would start with the kitchen.

Color sheme would be green & orange, pumpkins, nature, fall/autumn (simply to explain… like children would see a witches kitchen, tiny, dark, full of herb-smells and stuff). There is not too much room in my kitchen but enough for cooking and a small sitting area plus a window for my plants/herbs. Took a few minutes to write down what has to be in the kitchen and another few minutes to do the first quick sketch… (sorry not perfect but hopefully enough to give you an idea?) The matching floor was already in the appartement, yay!

Had to change some of the ideas during the work of course and a lot is still not finished or does not look how I want it to look like (and a few spots that will need a bit more inspiration, tumblr & others here i come XD) but here are some pictures of what I did during January and February… Of course I got all those things like oven, fridge and stuff but cheapest so all-white, nothing to see there (yet)! I actually would have wanted a much darker wall-color but didnt think the white & green would eat so much of the black and in the end I indeed do like the mossy / military color it is and it totally matches the velvet roof – I know dirt and dust but i don’t want to have simple white roofs in my flat…

Then here we have the window which besides some more herbs & pots is done. the rack is actually for shoes but perfect size for my needs and with 10€ each I didn’t want to miss them (getting 2 more to stack tomorrow). And the herbs make my entire flat smell like a forrest <3. Fabric as most of the times was bought on Stoffe.de (they have online shops in nearly every country so take a look at them!)

Racks were a special offer at one of the local shops so i’m fine with them, too and some nice fabric around will cover them anyways! Lamp was from amazon for like 20€ and a few decorative accents found their way, too already!

sooo that’s it for today, what do you think so far? how does or would your kitchen look like? Talk to you soon! ❤
