Batfit 16-09 & Gear review weighted gloves by ‘Mov it’

Hey there, Internet!

* Batfit is a ‘challenge group’ by our dear Professor Z where all kind of (darkly inclined) people try to motivate each other to get healthier or change / do whatever in their lives to feel better.

Health update: Pain is still down on a level I can take. No painkiller since August, 4th!

Emotional update: Back to normal. Of course there are some bad moments, I am human but not as bad as last month!

Body update: currently at 75kgs, going down – hoping to reach the ‘6s’ this year!

I think this is quite some good changes, really looking forwards to the next few months to see how close I can get to my 23/25-yr-old stomach!

Workout update: Still 1hr / 4days each week. Afterwards covered in more salty water than any ocean can offer and with a skin more red than any sunburnt person I’ve seen this year.

Gear upgrade: I already mentioned this in the Batfit Facebook group, this month I got some 2kgs weighted gloves from Amazon. Actually wanted to get bigger weights than the tiny 2kg ones I currently use but since the others seem to have different materials as middle part, which is simply perfect on mine (no sweat, no nothing) gloves were my choice this time. Started adding them on a day off work because first time with new gear I like to start with double time and time to rest afterwards! I still only managed to go through half of my workout but this made me set this months short term goal!

Short review: I bought the Mov it (Power and vitality) 2kg weightd gloves / wristbands from Amazon. They had mixed reviews but with 9.99€ I could not resist. They were available in three colors (red, blue and black – of course went with black) in 4 different weights (0.5kgs-2kgs, filling depends on what size you buy), fabric is neoprene and I hope maybe this will prevent sweat from sticking inside so they won’t smell bad after a few times of use. Some reviews mentioned sand falling out of their weights but since 2kgs are not filled with sand I can’t tell if this is what you get with the less heavy ones, mine arrived in a good condition. The Velcro closure is nice but I have tiny wrists so they are a bit loose on me, could fix with the thumb loop but those feel too tight and the fabric here is a bit rough on my skin. Still I am happy with them and for that kind of money I think it is a good investment in building muscles on my arms and I think I will do some researches on other gadgeds that might or might not help with my long term goals!

September Batfit goal: Go through entire workout with the weighted gloves. Achieved but probably will have to start at the beginning again when house moving thing is done because when working nightshifts, then driving 3hrs to attend a flat viewing and apply for it, then driving back 5 or more hours because of traffic jam your freetime activity  is trying to get some sleep in your car and decide if you want fries or coleslaw for dinner…

I managed to get off my painkillers and only having a tiny bit, acceptable level, of pain. Seems ginger and ginger tea help more than I would have thought. Even though there barely is a taste of something that I consider to be as disgusting as ginger, if it helps I will do! Even been thinking of cancelling the doctors appointment in december. I hate doctors with a passion and can’t accept when I need help or have a serious disease, if they tell me that I would probably be angry, but would also be angry if they would not believe me how much pain I had during the past 9 months alredy an that sadly is something a lot of people in health care tend to do. How old are you? You can’t have anything bad. Still, I will go there, maybe they have another solution for my problems!

Workout currently is 1hr on 4 days a week (ok, crying while workout quite often because the pain does hit quite hard while exercising and a while afterwards but still fighting through it because I know this pain is not telling me that workout is damaging my body) and I am extremely happy how much progress I am able to see already, mainly on my stomach but arms and booty starting to look better already as well! Still trying to not focus on my weight but I am 5kgs down! Also lost 5cm around my waistline and all other measurements went smaller, too! Maybe will share some progress pictures in next batfit post!

Let’s not talk about emotions much though, first half of August was a plain horror but second half was used to recover quite fast!

Mandrake!

Long time no plant post, huh? Last was Seeds and new plants back in March when I told you about the seeds I planted a few weeks earlier. Those moved to bigger pots already and are doing great. Amongst them probably is one plant that has a slightly more intense mystical background than the others have. Talking about my Mandragora off. V. Autumnalis, Mandrake here.

Biological background: While as today most people might know those screaming Mandrakes from the Harry Potter movies it is a plant that has been used as medicine and for witchcraft for hundreds of years. They are categorized as Solanaceae, related to tomatoes or peppers. The roots in ancient documents are shown in human (male or female) shape and with its long, branched shape it indeed does resemble somehow. The different species do differ in size and color of leaves and petals

Mystical aspects: Probably everyone remembers the screaming mandrakes from the Harry Potter movies but it is a plant that was said to be a strong medicinal herb that would prefer to grow close to galow spots and that you would die if you would pick it with your own hands. That’s the reason why often dogs were used for picking, one end of a rope bound to their tales, the other end to the mandrake. It also is said that the mandrake helped witches to fly – but don’t worry if you happen to find a bottle of the amazing mandrake liqueur, so far I didn’t experience any of my guests flying around my flat after a glass.

Medical aspects: Besides the belief of helping witches to fly Mandrakes were also used as medicine for rheumatic and other painful diseases. The juice of the roots was used as some kind of anesthetics or to cure possession, it indeed does have narcotic and hallucigenic agents. And tinctures are still used until today but yes, Mandrakes are poisonous.

My Mandrake: I am planning to grow both, the v. autumnalis and the original, spring blooming one but started with v. autumnalis, it might not grow as fast as my herbs do, for the first few months I even thought it was not going to grow at all. By the way, the pot in direct sunlight shows as much growth as the pot in part shadow. I also am not sure if it will be used for anything besides looking beautiful in the end but I am happy to have this finally growing and am looking forwards to next year when the spring growing Mandragora off. will join my family of plants! By the way, anyone else who thinks the first leaves of a plant coming through the soil looks similar to the lovely zombie movies when they crawl with their hands out of their graves?

I have no idea why I still am trying to plan my workout and diet when my body currently tries to make fun of me with pain attacks and allergies / food intolerances. In January my goal was to get back to a weight under 70kgs within 2016 (which by then would have been -5kgs) and in the end get back to the 61-65kgs that I felt good with a few years ago but thanks to the things mentioned above and my medication I even managed to gain some weight. So this currently is not what I should focus on. Also shared a picture of my stomach in that post that I wanted back…

Do not get me wrong, I actually still would love to get that stomach back but I understand that currently this will take longer, if it is possible at all. I will not be able to do the workout the way I wanted. (which was every second day warmup, 50 minutes workout, streches and then 30 minutes dancing) But during June I slowly tried what my body would accept, it seems 2 days workout, followed by a rest day is ok. Workout currently consists of 10 minutes for my arms, 5 minutes for stomach. This is not a lot but it is something. I am hoping to expand to 10 minutes each for arms, stomach and booty until December and then, hopefully with new therapy / medication add a bit more. But yes, there is some progress visible on my arms and stomach already but not enough that I would feel good sharing yet.

Learned a lot about food. My doctor suspects (or is sure about this but I have to wait for the specialist appointment in December) that the pain attacks are from some kind of rheumatism so there was a lot of research and testing for what food will make the pain in my joints worse and which are ok. Thank you, dear body, another thing that I now have to think about when planning my diet, shopping for food or eating outside.

What I managed to do is to feel better, emotionally. I had another bad phase when the pain attacks got worse and didn’t stop but no demon is going to keep my down for long! Prove? I only missed one day of work even though I sometimes was crying when moving or even sitting still. Hoping this will not make the doctors believe I only am pretending to be in pain?! Did not go out too much but did a lot of jewelry and painting, being creative. Getting back into my plans for body modifications as well so I re-started my jar to save for my ear pointings by Samppa von Cyborg. We’ll see when this will happen!
